Are You Using the Good Book?

Are You Using the Good Book?

Okay, so our great purpose and source of true joy in life is to please God by directly praising Him and consciously honouring Him in all that we think, say and do.

Q.2    What rule has God given to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy Him?

  1. The Word of God, which is contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, is the only rule to direct how we may glorify and enjoy Him.

It you are running a hundred-metre race you can see the finish line from the start. But if you are running a 10km cross-country race you want markers to show you your course.

The Bible is God’s guide to the race of our life. It is the mind of God in the language of mankind, and the God-given guide to fulfilling our purpose.

Everyone reveals what he or she is by what they say and do.  God shows Himself in His Word. God spoke His own word to Abraham and to Moses, to the Prophets and the Psalmists. The first part of the Bible is the Old Testament.  Finally, God became man in Jesus of Nazareth who is the Word of God in person. The story of Jesus and the meaning of His coming is the New Testament, even as the Old Testament is the promise of His coming.  The Bible is God’s Word to us. It is a witness to Jesus Christ our Saviour and Lord. As we read the Bible the living God reveals Himself to us that we may glorify and enjoy Him.

When we say it is contained in the meaning is that this is where we find it, nowhere else. At the same time it is saying that all of the Bible is the Word of God. The Bible in its parts but also as a whole is the Word of God.

As we read in 2 Tim 3:16-17, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully equipped for every good work.”

God speaks through His appointed writers of the Bible, and we can therefore trust what it tells us as being true, and that God has made all that we need to know plain in the Bible. It calls us to study the Bible so that we may live a life that glorifies Him.
